Chiropractic is a health care profession that deals primarily with the proper functioning of all the joints of the body. The spine is the main focus of chiropractors, because it has a direct influence on the spinal cord and the nervous system, which affects the health of the whole body. Joints are designed to move, and properly functioning joints should be healthy and not cause pain or problems. Joints that are not working properly will soon break down causing not only pain, but other health problems as well.
WHY WOULD A JOINT NOT BE WORKING PROPERLY?
With any kind of new or old damage (including accidents, sports or work injuries, poor posture for many years, stressful jobs, etc, etc, etc) there will be scar tissue and fibrotic tissue that will form in these areas. Because this interferes with normal joint function and/or position, it will inevitably lead to problems.
WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS DOES A POORLY WORKING JOINT CAUSE?
Movement is extremely important to joint health. Joints that no longer work properly will eventually begin to decay and degenerate, leading to arthritic changes that can be painful and permanent. The longer this process goes on, the bigger the problem becomes. This is true for any joint in the body but is especially important in the spine, where the close proximity to the spinal cord can not only lead to significant pain, but also many other health problems as the spinal cord can affect nearly every system in the body!
